Ennerdale Bridge

Lake District National Park

Heckbarley is situated in the village of Ennerdale Bridge. Within the Lake District National Park, it is ideally placed for exploring the unspoilt Western Lakes and coast.

The cottage is located in the heart of the village, 50 metres from the village pub, the Shepherds Arms Hotel, which serves wonderful meals. There is an excellent children’s playground 100 metres down the road, just over the bridge. For a map click here!

Beautiful Ennerdale Water is just 1 mile away and peaceful Ennerdale provides low level lakeside and forest walks as well as routes onto the high fells. Alfred Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Long Distance Path passes right past the front door, and follows the length of Ennerdale. The C2C Cycle Path is also nearby and is great for safe, off-road cycling.

Nearby Loweswater, the smallest of the Lakes, is seldom visited and a real gem, and given a starring role in the film “Miss Potter“. Superlative Buttermere and neighbouring Crummock Water are only a 30 minute drive away. To the south lies dramatic Wasdale, contrasting with tranquil Eskdale.

The market town of Cockermouth, Wordsworth’s birthplace, lies 10 miles north and the coast at Whitehaven is 9 miles west.
